Rachel Nichols is Keira Cameron on the hit sci-fi series Continuum. Not only does she take the lead in this drama, but she’s been in many other TV shows including Criminal Minds and Alias. No stranger to the big screen either as this actress was also in Star Trek and G.I. Joe: The Rise Of Cobra. The season three finale of Continuum airs Sunday, June 22 at 9pm ET/PT on Showcase and Real Style asked Rachel all about season three and just how much she loves Vancouver. See what she had to say.
Real Style: How has your role as Kiera Cameron on Continuum helped to shape you as an actress?
Rachel Nichols: KEIRA is the most multi-faceted character I have ever played. She needs to be strong. She needs to be physical. She needs to be emotional. She needs to be
driven. She needs to get angry. She needs to be present. She needs to be a mother
and a wife. She really needs to do a little bit of everything. Even vulnerable and
sad. And with KIERA needing to wear lots of different hats…I have to be able to
stretch myself as an actress, every day, to bring Kiera to life in an authentic and
believable way.
Real Style: How has it been working with Erik Knudsen on the show?
Rachel: Erik is one of my favorite people on the show. Him and Brian Markinson are such a blast to work with. As an actor, Erik is not only extremely talented, but generous
and very hard-working. He also has the most chill disposition of anyone I have ever
worked with…I’ve never seen him stressed or in a bad mood. No actor is more
prepared than Erik. He makes my job easy!
Real Style: Can you relate to your character on the show? Are you and Kiera
similar, in a sense?
Rachel: I would say that KIERA and I are both motivated, determined, savvy and strong. We want the job done right. We are perfectionists. We are loyal. And if you screw
with us…we won’t soon let you forget it.
Real Style: You’re trapped in modern day Vancouver on the series! What would you describe as one of your favourite Canadian cities, and why?
Rachel: I love Vancouver. If you want proof of just how much…I met a good Canadian boy
who lives in Vancouver and now we are getting married. I have moved to Canada full
time! Vancouver is truly one of the most stunning cities I have ever seen. Yes,
it rains, but when the sun comes out, it is utterly spectacular.
Real Style: How have fans been reacting so far to the third season of Continuum this spring?
Rachel: Fans have been awesome this season. Their support is essential to the future of our show and we would hate to let them down. Every piece of fan feedback I have read
about season three has been positive. The best part? Everyone is desperate for a
season four – including me!
Real Style: You have been in quite a few other series, like Underwater, Criminal Minds, and Alias. How did you first become interested in acting for television, and do you prefer TV roles to film?
Rachel: I like working on a solid mixture or film and TV. Keeps things interesting. Films
are fun because shooting them it like going away to summer camp. But TV is fun
because when you get multiple seasons…you get a built-in family. It’s nice to see
so many familiar faces every year.
Real Style: What can we expect throughout this season of Continuum? Are there any exciting plot twists, new characters, or changes to keep in mind?
Rachel: Season three, I’ve said before, reinvents the rollercoaster. There’s never a dull
moment. New characters. New relationships. New alliances. New enemies. I wish I
didn’t have to be so vague, but I don’t want to spoil any of the surprises! I will
say this; Kiera and Garza find themselves in a new relationship…and there are two
Alec Sadlers!
